Take a course, teach a course!

I don’t know what I was thinking this summer, but I (wisely?) decided to both teach a course (ENG3U – Grade 11 University English) and take my Media Arts (Senior) ABQ.  If you’ve ever taken a summer course, you know how compacted the work is…it’s essentially five months work in 4-6 weeks.  Now I am simultaneously doing my own assignments and creating and grading assignments for my students.  I do this while my three kids run around me, vying for my attention while I type just one…..more….word…

If you know what kind of person I am, however, this is not out of the ordinary.  I like a challenge and I like to be kept busy.  Plus, academia is kind of my thing.  I’m a perpetual nerd, always wanting to learn more and read more, so these courses were a natural fit.  Additionally, I’ve been dying for the past ten years, to find another senior ABQ that makes use of my degree.  You see, I graduated with a concentration in both English Language and Literature AND Communication Studies.  Until now, the communications part of my degree was “useless” in the world of Ontario education.  But now, well, I can FINALLY use it!  This is very exciting for me, and what is even more exciting is the thought that I might one day be able to teach the media arts!  So cool!

So, I will make the most of the time my husband has taken the children elsewhere so I can get loads of work done.  I love the work.  I love the challenge.  I just hope I can keep my head above water!
